In response to the second edition of Zweigstelle Capitain, Villa Lontana Records conceived a site specific soundscape composed by field and electromagnetic recordings collected in Gisela Capitain's headquarter gallery in Cologne and the gallery’s temporary space in Rome. This vast collection of sounds has been captured and edited by Michele Ferrari and selected by Villa Lontana Records which commissioned the sound design to Rome-based sound designer Giuseppe Tillieci (Neel), playing with the idea of dislocation through spatialisation, distortion and electronics. The piece has been conceived as an immersive site-specific quadraphonic sound installation at Villa Lontana, a former garage built entirely in concrete and located on the ancient Via Cassia, once the main entry road to Rome for those coming from the north.
The exhibition Metamorfosi, on view at Zweigstelle Capitain in San Lorenzo in Rome until 27 October 2022, presents a group of works that deal with topics strongly connected with the idea of Zweigstelle: dislocating the gallery space causes a change of perspective, a kind of confusion that helps to re-establish meaning. For this occasion Villa Lontana Records has conceived a limited edition dubplate as an ephemeral trace of the exhibition. A “sonorous postcard”, collecting thoughts and messages from the artists: Jadé Fadojutimi, Wade Guyton, Jacqueline Humphries, Liza Lacroix, Zoe Leonard, Meuser, Marcel Odenbach, Seth Price, Stephen Prina, Monika Sosnowska, Kelley Walker and Christopher Williams. Each artist has been invited to send a recording in response to an hermetic sentence questioning memory. Sounds recorded on a dubplate undergo a particular deterioration, faster than on a classic vinyl, producing unpredictable changes of sound over time that run parallel to the theme of metamorphosis.
DIS-LOCATIONSCAPE is played every 30 minutes and has a duration of 14:37 minutes. One copy of the Metamorfosi dubplate will be on view for listening.
