Andrés Saenz de Sicilia responds to the domestic interior spaces of Residency 80121 to create a site specific durational sound performance in collaboration with Walter Maioli. Both artists engage with the potency of sound, responding to notions of historical location and situation. Archeological overtones and undertones arise from the historical inhabitation of Residency 80121. The unfolding sounds and the instrumental passages and interludes may infer the various mythological constructs of the city of Naples and the metaphor of water as a conduit for storytelling.

Drawing by Franchino Gaffurio, taken from a panel published between 1480 and 1492 on Theorica Musicae
All the sounds used for this performance have been developed solely utilising recordings of Walter Maioli’s prehistoric, ancient and ethnographic collection of instruments, which include shells, stones, flutes, drums, bells, scrapers and leaves.
The sounds have been recorded by Andrés Saenz De Sicilia between June/September 2019 in Walter Maioli's home and studio and in Daniele Brenca’s studio in Paestum and reworked by the artist. The instruments were played by Walter Maioli, Daniele Brenca and Melissa Costanzi. Andrés Saenz de Sicilia will perform live using a multi-channel sound system installation of 10 speakers across the spaces of Residency 80121.
